The Dawn’s Call: how to perform fajr salah

Fajr salah holds a significant place in Islam. A Qur’anic chapter begins with Allah swearing by Fajr, saying: “By the dawn, and the ten nights. It marks the start of a new day and strongly reminds us of our faith and dedication. This Fajr prayer, performed in the tranquil hours before sunrise, is a serene act of worship that sets the tone for a day grounded in mindfulness, spiritual connection, and gratitude to Allah. For every adult Muslim, learning how to perform Fajr Salah is not only an essential act of obedience to Allah’s commands but also a deeply fulfilling practice that strengthens their faith and relationship with the Creator.

Learning how to pray fajr salah requires first understanding the structure of this prayer. The Fajr prayer includes two required units (fard) and two additional units (Sunnah) that are done before the required ones.
