Step-by-step guide on how to Perform Isha Prayer
- Perform Wudu to be clean and ready to perform the Isha Prayer.
- Dress well according to Sunnah. For women, cover all your body except your face and hands. Additionally, ensure to avoid wearing tight. For men, you need to cover the area starting from your belly to your knees.
- Stand correctly to face the Qiblah and set your intention (niyyah) by stating that you intend to perform Isha prayer.
- Start praying by raising your hands to the sides of your head and say the Takbir—“Allahu Akbar,” which means “God is the greatest.” Next, place your right hand on your chest, then put your left hand on top of it, and recite the Fatiha.
- Finish praying the 4 rakaas of Isha.
The first Rakaa
- Stand still in the same position to start reading the Fatihah followed by a short surah. This could be any short surah from Juz Amma.
- Bring your hand back to the sides of your head and say Takbir again then bend forward (Ruku) while placing your hands on your knees, and say Subhaana rabbiyal ‘atheem, repeat this saying 3 times then return to a straight position and say “Sami’-Allaahu liman hamidah, rabanna w laka alhamd”
- Lower yourself to the floor in a position to let your nose, hands, and forehead touch the praying mat in a position called (Sujud). While sujud you need to say the following 3 times “Subhaana rabbiyal ‘alaa” means “glory be to Allah, the most high”
- Set on your toes and say “Allahu Akbar,” then say “Rabbighfirlee, repeat the sujud, reset and put your hands on your knees and say “Rabbighfirlee” which means “Oh Allah, please forgive me”. Then stand up straight again you have finished the first Rakaa.
Second Rakaa of Isha prayer
- Start in the same position you began with in the first Rakaa, and follow all the steps you did in the first Rakaa up to the sujud step.
- After doing the sujud 2 times keep sitting on your toes, Sit up straight, and put your weight on your left thigh. Keep your feet in the same position as before and put your hands on your knees. Then, lift your right index finger to point towards Makkah, and read the first half of the Tashahhud.

Rakaa Number Three
- Do the first Rak’ah again. The third Rak’ah is just exactly the same as the first one, the one little difference is that you only say the Surat al-Fatiha, you don’t say anything else.
The fourth and last Rakaa
- Pray it as the second Rakaa, just as the third one ready Fatihah only. l
- Perform Ruku and Sujud then kneel on your heels with your right index finger raised and say the full Tashahhud.
- Finish with the Taslim. Stay seated, turn your head to the right, and say, “Assalaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah w barakato” means “May Allah’s peace and mercy be upon you”), then turn to the left and say it again. You are now done with the Isha prayer Rakats
